In patien suffered from cranial defect, the most satisfactory form of cranioplasty has been achieved with autogenous bone grafts.
Various bones have been used for the closure of cranial defects.
The most popular autogenous bones are ileum, rib, tibia and adjacent cranium. The reason why we used the split-rib grafts is that it has the advantages of easy availab ility, rapid regeneration for subsequent repeated use, ready application in especially children without possibility of injury to growing epiphyses. While, other bones such as ileum and tibia have disadvantages of possible injury to growth conter and risk of fracture when tibial osteoperiosteal grafts are used.
The patient who had been suffered from defects of scalp and cranium due to electric burn was received autogenous split-rib grafts for bony protection of brain and cranial contour restoration, which scalp defect was reconstructed by use of rotation flap from the other side.
Thereatfter, the postoperative complications such as infection or extrusion is not seen until now.
